Lynn Davis Memorial Scholarship

The Lynn Davis Memorial Award was named in memory of a well-respected member in the Marine industry and for some... was a very dear friend.

For over 20 years Lynn Davis was involved in Associations such as the National Association of Insurance Women and Association of Marine Underwriters of British Columbia (now the Marine Insurance Association of BC). 

She was the first woman to join the Association in the early 80’s, where she led the various Chairs in the Committee such as Cargo, Social, and Underwriting..  She was Treasurer and ultimately led her to become President of the association from 2002 to 2004.  During her term as President, the scholarship was inaugurated as an initiative to offer scholarship to Member’s families. This kind initiative is what Lynn was truly all about.

Sadly In 2006, Lynn passed away after a battle with cancer. This scholarship was then re-named in her honour, commemorating her contributions to both the Association and the industry.

Eligibility

Any full-time student with a direct affiliation with the Marine Insurance Association of British Columbia accepted into a school of higher education. Preference will be given to those applicants intending to study marine/insurance related fields.

Only full-time students are eligible. Definitions (for the purpose of this award):

1. Full Time Student: A student who is registered in a post-secondary institution for a minimum of 12 instructional hours per week.

2. Direct Affiliation with the MIABC: Child, grandchild, sibling, niece or nephew of an employee who works for a company that is a Full or Associate Member of the MIABC and is a resident of British Columbia.

Requirements:

1. Completed application.

2. Two letters of recommendation (one personal and one professional).

3. Copy of last grade transcript or G.E.D. certificate.

All submissions are considered private and confidential. Once made, the Education Scholarship Committee’s decision is final
